Every year, the St. John's Fine Arts department hosts the One Acts, a student-led production of short skits, which premiered in the black box theater on the first weekend of October.
For actors, theater is worth sacrificing school and free time. Many view theater as a recreational pastime rather than a burden.

Preparations for both the play and the musical “Newsies” began months before their opening nights, starting with auditions. Actors devoted many hours memorizing lines, rehearsing and perfecting the scenes. The end of production is often met with mixed reactions.

On Oct. 22 and 23, the Student Playwriting Festival will return for a second year, featuring nine plays written and performed by students.
Katina Christensen played Jack's Mother in "Into the Woods." Because the show took place indoors, all actors wore large, clear face masks.

"Into the Woods" seemed like the perfect musical to perform amid a pandemic: small cast and minimal choreography. Little did Director Jamie Stires-Hardin know how complicated staging a musical during a pandemic would turn out to be.
To produce some of the plays, actors filmed their individual performances from home, and the videos will be arranged on the screen, similar to a Zoom call.

The cast of "The Cripple of Inishmaan" used unique methods to learn the Irish dialect used in the play.
To give choreographers more time to hone their dances and reduce dancers’ workload at the end of the first semester, STUCHO will take place on Jan. 17 rather than the middle of December. As the performance date approaches, Gidi’s choreographers are scheduling more rehearsals to finalize details.
