Seniors Michael Daichman and Nicolas Munoz retrieve their phones from beneath a Spikeball net, which had been straddled by the falling branch. The students had left their phones under the net during their game earlier that afternoon.

30-foot branch crashes onto Quad, narrowly misses students

At approximately 2:36 p.m. on Oct. 23, a 30-foot branch splintered from a live oak tree in the center of the Quad, falling dangerously close to a group of seniors playing Spikeball.

The bird was either a red-tailed hawk or a female Cooper's Hawk, as identified by chemistry teacher Roxie Allen and biology teacher Paula Angus.

A wild hawk caught, killed and ate an unsuspecting squirrel mere feet from unsuspecting seniors. Students and faculty gathered to watch the aftermath.
